Mahima Chaudhry, originally named Ritu Chaudhry, is an Indian actress and model. She was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, and completed her schooling at Dow Hill in Kurseong until class 10 and later moved to Loreto College, Darjeeling. She changed her name to Mahima Chaudhry at the suggestion of her director Subhash Ghai, who believed the letter ‘M’ to be lucky for lead actresses in his films.
In 1997, Chaudhry made her acting debut in the film Pardes and won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Mahima then appeared in several other films including Dil Kya Kare (1999), Dhadkan (2000), Kurukshetra (2000), Lajja (2001), Baghban (2003), and Dobara (2004). However, in 1999, while shooting for Dil Kya Kare, she was involved in a car accident in Bangalore and had to undergo surgery to remove multiple pieces of glass from her face. Chaudhry married architect Bobby Mukherji in 2006, but the couple separated in 2013. In 2022, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment for the same.

In Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin (1999), she portrayed a widow forced to marry her brother-in-law, and in Dhadkan (2000), she played a loving friend of a man who was madly in love with another woman.
