Kaur, originally from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, belongs to the Ravidassia Caste, with Punjabi origin. Her father served as an army official. She studied up to the 10th standard at Karthika High School and later pursued a career in modeling after completing the 12th class. Kaur appeared in six music videos before making her feature film debut in the Kannada film “Darshan” and then in the Telugu film “Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi” (2004). She also acted in other films like “Chetna” (2005), “Jagapathi” (2005), “Good Boy” (2005), and “Bhuma” (2008), among others. Kaur was a participant in the reality show “Humma Humma” on Gemini TV. She also starred in the Malayalam film “Love In Singapore” and the Punjabi film “Lad Geya Pecha.”
In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Kaur contested as a politician from the Nationalist Congress Party but was unsuccessful, citing her competition indirectly against Narendra Modi, who supported the winning candidate Anandrao Adsul. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, she ran as an Independent candidate with the support of the Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party and won from the Amravati constituency in Maharashtra. Controversy
On 8 June 2021, the High Court of Bombay fined her Rs. 2 lakh for submitting a fake Mochi caste certificate. The court canceled her caste certificate but did not address the validity of her position as an elected representative from a Lok Sabha seat reserved for people belonging to the Scheduled Caste category. In April 2022, both Kaur and her husband Ravi were arrested by the Mumbai police for insisting on reciting Hanuman Chalisa in front of Matoshree, the residence of former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. They were subsequently sent to 14 days of judicial custody, and Rana was taken to Byculla women’s jail following the local magistrate’s orders.
