Rohit Shetty was born in Mangalore to parents Madhu B. Shetty, a renowned stuntman, and Ratna Shetty, a former junior Bollywood star. Growing up with four sisters and two brothers, he was deeply influenced by movies from a young age and aspired to become a director. He attended St. Mary’s School until the age of seventeen before entering the movie industry as an assistant director under Kuku Kohli.
Rohit’s father, also known as Fighter Shetty due to his roles as a stuntman and popular villain in the 70s, passed away when Rohit was just seven years old. This tragedy led to financial difficulties for the family, and his mother sought help from Amitabh Bachchan, who provided assistance. Currently, Rohit Shetty is known for hosting the real-life program “Khatron ke Khiladi.”
His directorial debut was the movie “Zameen” in 2003. However, he gained significant recognition with the 2006 comedy “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited,” featuring a star-studded cast including Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, and Sharman Joshi. In 2008, he directed the comedy thriller “Sunday,” starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, and Ayesha Takia. He also helmed the sequel “Golmaal Returns” the same year.

Rohit Shetty began his career at 17 as an assistant director in Ajay Devgn’s film “Phool Aur Kaante.” He continued working with Devgn in several films, including being a body double for Akshay Kumar in “Suhaag” and “Haqeeqat.” He also collaborated with Kumar in “Zulmi.” Shetty directed his first independent film, “Zameen,” in 2003, starring Devgn. However, his breakthrough came with the cult comedy “Golmaal” in 2006, followed by successful movies like “Sunday,” “Golmaal Returns,” and “All the Best: Fun Begins.”
He achieved immense success with the Golmaal series and expanded his repertoire with films like “Singham,” “Bol Bachchan,” and the record-breaking “Chennai Express” starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Shetty has also been a judge on the TV show “Comedy Circus” and hosted “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi.”
